Wreck Fishing Adventure with Ananya Fishing

Looking for some serious bottom fishing action? You've found the right crew. Our wreck fishing trips put you right on top of structure where the big fish live, and with space for just one angler, you get the full attention you deserve. We're talking about dropping lines on wrecks that hold monster grouper, snapper, and amberjack - the kind of fish that'll test your gear and give you stories worth telling.

What to Expect on the Water

This isn't your typical fishing charter. With room for just one guest, you're getting a premium experience that's all about putting you on fish. We'll motor out to proven wreck sites where the bottom structure creates perfect habitat for big predators. The GPS coordinates are locked in, and we know these wrecks like the back of our hand - some are ships, others are artificial reefs, but they all hold fish. You'll be fishing with heavy tackle designed for pulling fish up from depth, and we'll have you rigged and ready before the first drop. The intimate setting means we can adjust tactics on the fly, move spots if needed, and really focus on what's working for the conditions we're facing.

Gear Setup & Bottom Tactics

Wreck fishing is all about the right approach and solid gear. We're fishing with conventional reels spooled with heavy braid - usually 50-80 pound test - because these fish don't mess around, and neither should your tackle. The rigs are simple but effective: heavy sinkers to get down fast, circle hooks to keep fish pinned, and fresh bait that gets their attention. We'll be using everything from live pinfish and grunts to cut bait depending on what's biting. The technique is straightforward - drop to the bottom, engage the reel, and stay ready. When something hits on a wreck, it's usually game on immediately. These fish know their territory and will try to cut you off on the structure, so we'll coach you through the fight to land more fish and lose fewer rigs.

Target Species

Red grouper are the bread and butter of wreck fishing around here, and for good reason. These chunky bottom dwellers love the nooks and crannies that wrecks provide, and they'll hit just about any bait you drop down there. They typically run 5-15 pounds, with bigger fish possible on the right day. Fall through spring is prime time when they're feeding heavy before spawn, and the cooler water keeps them active. What makes them such a favorite is the fight - they'll try to get back to their hole immediately, so it's a tug-of-war from the first hookup. Plus, they're excellent table fare with firm white meat that's hard to beat.

Amberjack are the muscle cars of the wreck scene. These yellow-tailed bruisers cruise the mid-water column around structure and will absolutely smoke your drag when they hit. We're talking fish in the 20-50 pound range that fight like they're twice that size. Summer months are peak season when they school up thick on the wrecks, though you can find them year-round in decent numbers. Live bait gets the best response, but they'll crush big jigs too. The reason anglers get addicted to AJs is simple - they're pure power and endurance wrapped up in one package.

Vermilion snapper might be smaller than the other targets, but they make up for it in numbers and taste. These bright red beauties school thick around wrecks, especially during their spring and fall runs. They're typically 1-3 pounds, perfect for light tackle fun and filling the cooler. They're aggressive feeders that compete with each other, so once you find them, you can usually catch them steady. Many anglers consider them the best eating fish we target - sweet, flaky meat that's fantastic fried or grilled.
